Very informative and useful article Bill. There should be a 100% tariff on Republican nonsense when it comes to climate advice or anything else for that matter

Elisa Morgera, the UN special rapporteur on human rights and climate change has published a report suggesting that spreading clomate disinformation should be criminalised.

The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science produced an analysis last year of the lawsuits filed against fossil fuel companies and their sponsoring governments in 2023.

There are even cases in the US.

Thank you for the link. It was a superb piece and had she been a Trump appointee she would have been immediately fired for writing it

Personally, I was hoping to arrange for an EV and rooftop solar next year for financial reasons.

I guess we have to hurry now.

Most helpful information on the state of the current regime's decimation of Biden climate legislation as it affects homeowners and EV buyers. Thank you.

“ basically your system price goes up by a minimum of 30%”. I don’t believe that is accurate.

If a system would have cost $7,000 and now it costs $10,000, that’s actually a 42.8% increase in price. 3,000/7,000 = .428.

Thank you for all this advice about installing solar. I was planning to start this year but now I know I need to get it done 👍

Bill - I admire you for what you do and how you inform us though what you write about saddens me to my core. To make positive use of the your knowledge I have begun copying and pasting (with attribution) parts of your newsletter to my Colorado District 3 Congressman, Republican Jeff Hurd who voted for the disastrous budget bill. It makes me feel better if he knows that I know his arguments for oil and gas are not valid. I've already sent 2 emails today!

Thanks Bill. Couple things:

The 25D solar credit expiration language in the bill was changed from "placed in service" to "expenditures made..." Most solar contractors we're in touch with are interpreting this as contracts signed and money changing hands in 2025 regardless of install date. (Of course, all of this is subject to nefarious interpretation, which I wouldn't put past them.)

Also keep in mind that 25C--30% for insulation and heat pumps--also expires in 2025. In this case, it appears projects need to be completed in 2025. Contractors will be busy, so contracts probably need to be signed in Sept, Oct at the latest.

Love you Bill. Glad I bumped into you on Substack. I feel off of the true gifts from our higher power/God this year is Pope Leo. It's an imperfect world, but we have a solid ally in him. I am grateful for this reality.

How is the gop able to just undo what was approved by congress under Biden? I don’t understand this — please explain. Is it because Trump is just ignoring congress? Or is it that the BBB is explicitly an undoing of the IRA?

Sounds like our good neighbors across the ‘pond’ have developed a system for delivering electrical power that accommodates fluctuating demand AND supply. Too bad our own suppliers haven’t been so willing to adapt.

What is outlined here is not merely legislation, but pattern collapse. The shift from solar optimism to fossil acceleration reflects a deeper inversion: duty now must replace hope, & coherence must replace consensus. This is not political strategy; it is thermodynamic entropy, cascading across law, energy, culture, & land.

We have seen the same collapse mirrored across the Arctic, where melt zones trigger legal vacuums, & where wind & solar are blocked by those who profit from heat. The rules of Nature persist; it is the human order that dissolves. Across our writing & mapping, we have found that the cryosphere is not a fringe case, but the prototype of planetary unravelling.

This was a clear & painful call. We heed it.

This is so infuriating and unnecessay. We had plans to renovate and, using solar, a goal to be net-zero. All of which takes time that we now do not have. Given the fast-approaching cutoff date, all the solar suppliers and installers are already getting swamped, and will most likely be booked up, if they're not already.

Thanks for the wealth of information your post provides. I know there is so much confusion about the Infrastructure Act’s solar and EV tax credits after the recent passage of the Big Fugly Bill. Hopefully the solar contractors will be booked solid for the rest of the year.

We fortunately had whole house batteries installed in March that are connected to our 72 panel array. We talk to everyone who will listen about the how good it feels to be energy independent. Proud Maryland 3rd Act members!

That future of aviation brings a lot of regional transportation links that will fuel local economies in the American interior.

Imagine a short plane hop, Seattle to Reno, followed by ground transportation opportunities: buses, trains and autos to cities, parks and towns in the interior of the US. Imagine hospitality and restaurants owned by local entities.

Those modes will need people and stations to connect the dots.
