Biomass burning has a bad week
Thank you for your leadership...your clear-eyed, but always hopeful vision for the future, and your indescribably heroic work in Nevada to save our democracy. Happy holidays to you and your family.
I wonder if the bomb cyclone currently pummelling the States mightn't awaken people to the potential devastation climate change will wreak if more attention isn't paid to reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.
Re. Canary Media's very good story cited by Bill in this article, I see that Public Citizen is taking an active role in resisting the liqueified natural gas terminal in North Port St. Joe, Fla., & I wonder if Earthjustice has been approached about also assisting the effort with their legal expertise? They are top drawer!
The recent passage of the Omnibus bill, the world’s largest slush fund, clarifies that biomass be recognized as a renewable energy source.
A spokesperson for Senator Collins, a recipient of biomass industry campaign funding, was quoted saying “Recognizing the carbon neutrality of biomass not only aligns with the science, but also encourages investments in working forests, harvesting operations, bioenergy, wood products, and paper manufacturing.”
How sad for our environment that the people continue to elect candidates that represent the needs of corporations rather that the needs of the people.
Bill, thank you for highlighting my reporting this month for Mongabay, the finest news organization covering the environment globally. There be more to come in 2023.
Hey you shared a great link about Steven Donziger and his fight against Chevron and the insane levels of legal corruption that kept him in home confinement for over a year.

Happy holidays to you and yours, Bill.
I’m not sure how our lives will turn out but it’s going to be extraordinary any way you slice it. We’ll be alive to see much of it. 2023 looks to be another high in our age of unprecedentalisim.
Great story thanks bill
You have a point when you are looking into Drax in the UK. But the Biomass issue has many perspectives. Listen to the talk with the former Director of Friends of the Earth and Anders Egelrud, CEO of Stockholm Exergi at https://kajembren.org/podcast/is-biomass-energy-a-threat-or-a-solution-to-meet-the-climate-crises/ Best Kaj
Bill McKibben, it is time for a ten year all out effort to reduce human fossil fuel CO2 emissions to 1/10th of their present per person levels. Our historical and political situation is like that of Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln had drafted the Emancipation Proclamation and his Cabinet advised him he needed a military victory. You should visit the White House and prepare Biden for the exceptional task before him.
My blog entry about this:
Bill, would you please visit the President and launch the needed extraordinary change we need now:
