I wonder what specifically activists should be doing. So far, protesting for climate action has failed miserably as carbon emissions rise unabated.
Over the past 2 centuries, the availability of cheap fossil fuel energy powered a population explosion from 1 billion to 8 billion people, along with global economic production from $1.2 trillion to $102 trillion annually. Add to the equation a consumption driven global economy which requires infinite growth and ignores the degradation of the biosphere. Now we are experiencing the consequences- a badly damaged environment and climate disruption. The global economy is expected to double by 2050- a likely path to assured mutual destruction.
What will it take to overcome the inertia of a fossil-fuel-driven global economic system that has developed over centuries? How can we abolish the fossil fuel industry with its entrenched wealth and political power? Will a top-down revamp of the global political economic system be required to preserve the biosphere for human survival? I can say only this with certainty- the clock is ticking and it won’t come easy.
I also feel this. I am one inside the church who look with disgust and sadness at the oblivious behaviour of vast majority of the churches who are virtually silent on the destruction of Creation. The complicity there/here since the dawn of technologies that burn fossil fuels (in addition to using that "power" to clear cut forests and rapidly grow industrial agriculture, all while producing societies that throw things away that cause serious waste problems. Our theology has failed the human race on this planet. At least that theology that is complicit with Constantine and Empire.
Speaking of not burning things, I recently made a donation to Jose Andres’s World Central Kitchen (WCK) for the great work they do in Ukraine and around the world. In the thank you message they sent was this:
“Our clean cooking initiatives convert school and home kitchens to clean gas-burning stoves from harmful charcoal and wood.”
Given the reach of WCK and all the richly deserved coverage they get, is it worth trying to work with them to promote induction stoves tied to solar panels instead of burning gas? If making the switch is possible and practical, I imagine Andres would be all in. And it would be a great way to widely spread the word about a better alternative than gas for cooking.

I am curious why Amory Lovins doesn't have a higher profile in the movement: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/mar/26/amory-lovins-energy-efficiency-interview-cheapest-safest-cleanest-crisis
And which US political party is NOT beholden to the FF industry?
