The Climate Emergency Fast Forward: The point is, there’s nothing radical about a declaration of a climate emergency. President Hillary Clinton was going to do it in 2017, Bill McKibben advocated for President Joe Biden to do it in 2022, President Ron DeSantis DID IT in 2027 when he said it's an EMERGENCY and we all must relocate to our cooler 51st state, British Columbia. This is the reverse snowbird way to handle the Climate Emergency ... adapt and move. Of course, the Republicans are smarter than Democrats and they bought up all the prime residential real estate and farm lands in Canada.

Agree. The climate emergency gets more obvious every year. I lived in France 1965-66. I was never hot there. It didn't get hot in France. Never near it. Now Paris has seen 100 degrees. I wouldn't have dreamed it. And London--104. Wildfires all over Europe.

And last year--108 in Seattle. I lived there 1953-'57, and '60-'61. I have gone back fairly regularly, mostly in the summer, most recently in '15. I've never been uncomfortable in Seattle. It didn't get hot there. And it's 7 degrees of latitude north of Boston.

Bill, I remember your work with Bernie Sanders in 2016. It was a thrill to meet you during Platform Committee week in Orlando. I pushed for legalizing industrial hemp and imposing a moratorium on mountaintop removal in the coal industry. Hillary’s people negotiated with me to weaken the language on the latter amendment so they could see their way clear to vote for it. It sickened me. Hillary only took on climate change because Bernie sold it so well, with your intel and pressure. Thank you.

it seems a long time ago...

It was. And yet, like yesterday because the energy was so high. Wish we could reclaim that.

Is Biden terrified of making a decision, or does he have terrible advisers, or both? After 8 years if executive branch experience and 1.5 years as president, why does he believe that twitchy diffidence is perceived as strength? This is not an issue that requires input from different sides (eg, student loan forgiveness), the planet is objectively on fire and it's getting worse. Even if it's not a priority for Biden, it is for his base, Independents and young Republicans. Biden can, at least pretend to fight for the right side of history.

'twitchy diffidence' is a nice turn of phrase!

The Democrats aren't going to save us. The fight falls to us.

Thanks, Bill, for your constant work to save the planet. You inspire so many people - including me. We must keep working, in every way possible, because it is the only ethical and moral thing to do.

You'll forgive me if I don't have any more faith in HRC than I do Biden. Either one will pretend to believe anything at all to get elected, but what they have supported (the donors) has never wavered, ever.
